Volkswagen Group Australia Managing Director Ms Anke Koeckler said: “We are proud to sponsor the City of Sydney’s Chinese New Year activities in 2010 and hope our loyal fans will be cheering with us for the Volkswagen team at the Dragon Boat Races.”
Ms Koeckler wished the Australian Chinese community a Happy New Year for the Year of the Tiger and reiterated that Volkswagen was committed to delivering automotive excellence and maintaining its relationships with the Chinese community in Australia. Volkswagen are also sponsors of the Hong Kong Australian Business Association (HKABA) NSW Chapter and the Australian Chinese Professionals Association (ACPA) in Australia.
At the start of 2010, the Volkswagen Golf was named the prestigious 2009 Wheels Car of the Year.
Experienced judge and former Wheels editor Peter Robinson commenting that the “overall refinement is worthy of two classes higher … balance and weighting of all controls are BMW-like in their consistency and tactility. Ride and handling, best in class.”
Ms Koeckler said that despite a competitive market, Volkswagen had a strong year in 2009 due to the outstanding model range and strong dealer network.
Ms Koeckler mentioned that the Volkswagen Golf winning the Wheels Car of the Year 2009 was a great way to start 2010 and it will be another exciting year for Volkswagen with the arrival of the Golf wagon and the soon-to-be-released new Polo - the 2010 European Car of the Year. Like the new Golf, launched early last year, Volkswagen’s new models will all come with the latest petrol and diesel engines, offering improved driving performance and outstanding economy.
For Chinese New Year, Volkswagen are currently offering free on-road costs with the Polo Pacific TDI and Golf 103TDI Comfortline models which both offer TDI engine technology, encouraging customers to reduce their CO2 emissions as well as save on fuel costs.
